Sustainable living??
Isn’t it talk of the town nowadays!!
Companies and businesses are promoting themselves on this only isn’t it?

And we as a consumer buy their product without even realizing if it is sustainable enough? We don’t even know what exactly comes under the roof of sustainable living/ lifestyle!…Till last year me neither!

Here, I’m gonna share my understanding of sustainability!

So, Let’s look what is the definition of sustainability?
-”Sustainability means meeting our own needs without
compromising the ability of future generations to meet their
own needs.” ~ https://www.mcgill.ca

Have a look at the data we have..

source: Mentioned

Now the question is are we even meeting our needs?
Do you think we can fulfill the needs in near future?
How we gonna save resources for future generations?
.
.
That is why I want to talk about 8 Re’s which I think would help us!!

pin

1. Refuse : Don’t consume What you don’t need to.
One-third of food produced for human consumption is lost or wasted globally, which amounts to about 1.3 billion tones per year.

2. Reduce : Reduce consumption of energy and materials.
The evaluation reveals that 72% of the global primary energy consumption is lost after conversion.

3. Re-use: Share with others. Find new uses for old objects.
300 million tons of plastic produce each year worldwide, half of which is for single-use items. That’s nearly equivalent to the weight of the entire human population.

4. Repair : Fix or upgrade your objects rather than throwing them away.
The Global E-waste Monitor 2020, a new report produced in collaboration with the UN Environment Program (UNEP), found that a record 53.6 million metric tons of electronic waste was generated last year.

5. Re-gift: Share and be a part of the gift economy.
Well, Here i don’t think so i should say something because we Indians are too good at this. ;p

6. Recover: energy and materials recovery and upcycle!
7. Recycle: Close the loop and remake.
We are aiming towards circular economy! For that we have to take responsibilities.

Last but not least..
8. RETHINK: BE MINDFUL OF YOUR CONSUMPTION.
Don’t go for impulsive buying.
Stop FAST FASHION trend.

This is what I think. I know there is much to cover!
But This are the small steps we should inculcate in our lives.

“If you want to inculcate new habits, key is to start with repetition!”

Thank you.
